This beginners course is designed for new beekeepers or those who planning to start beekeeping. The course is design and presented by beekeepers of the Beaufort Beekeepers Association. In a practical and fun way (showing video clips and practical tasks (e.g. assembling a frame), quizzes etc.), you learn the basic about bees and beekeeping:

Session 1: Introduction

  • Reasons for beekeeping
  • Choosing a hive location
  • Types of bees and getting bees
  • Hive types
  • Equipment and tools

Session 2: The Bees World

  • Biology of bees
  • Lifecycle of bees
  • Communication of bees

Session 3: The Beekeepers Year

  • Managing Bees
  • Hive inspection
  • Tasks in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter
  • Diseases and Medicines

Session 4: In the Apiary

  • With the trainers we will open several hives and carry out inspections.

Location: Beaufort Bar 8-10pm

Dates:      11thFeb,4th Mar, 8th Apr. Apiary visit in May. Date to be confirmed.
