Beginners course - spring 2025.
Run successfully for the last 6 years, our popular beginner course is back in 2025.
This beginners course is designed for new beekeepers or those who planning to start beekeeping. The course is design and presented by beekeepers of the Beaufort Beekeepers Association.
In a practical and fun way (showing video clips and practical tasks (e.g. assembling a frame), quizzes etc.), you learn the basic about bees and beekeeping:
Session 1: Introduction
- Reasons for beekeeping
- Choosing a hive location
- Types of bees and getting bees
- Hive types
- Equipment and tools
Session 2: The Bees World
- Biology of bees
- Lifecycle of bees
- Communication of bees
Session 3: The Beekeepers Year
- Managing Bees
- Hive inspection
- Tasks in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter
- Diseases and Medicines
Session 4: In the Apiary
- Either in a group or in 1-2-1 sessions we are going to open hives and carry out inspections.
Location: Beaufort Bar, Beaufort, Co Kerry - 8-10pm

- 1: Monday, 17 FEB-2025, 8pm to 10pm Session
- 2: Monday, 10 MAR-2025, 8pm to 10pm Session
- 3: Monday, 14 APR-2025, 8pm to 10pm Session
- 4: TBC
Cost: €60 (incl. light refreshments, handouts and insurance to enter apiary)
Note: We cannot refund course fee, if participants do not attend.
